School Site Council (SSC)

School Site Council (SSC) is a federally mandated council where a group of parents, students, teachers and administrators examine the use of the Title 1 budgets. This groups meets monthly to determine how the instructional program is being supported by these supplementary funds. This group allows for further collaboration across the stakeholders about the instructional goals for the school community and regularly reviews Bravo’s program effectiveness in alignment with the district LCAP requirements to make decisions regarding allocation of categorical funds.  The Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA- viewable on Bravo's profile page on the LAUSD website) goals which are aligned with the district LCAP and along with included data are regularly referred to in SSC meetings as a basis for decision making.

English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

Each California Public School from Kindergarten through grade 12, with 21 or more English learners must form a functional English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). The ELAC is a committee for parents or other community members who want to advocate for English Learners.

The purpose of ELAC is to advise the principal and school staff on programs and services for English learners and the School Site Council (SSC) on the development of the Single School Plan for Student Achievement. The ELAC also assists the school on other tasks listed below:

  • The school’s program for English learners.
  • The school’s needs assessment.
  • The school’s annual language census or R-30.
  • Efforts to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.
 
Composition, Elections and Training

The percentage of parents of English learners on the committee must be at least the same as that of English learners at the school.

Requirements for ELAC elections include:

  • Parents/guardians of English learners elect parent members of the school committee.
  • The parents/guardians are provided the opportunity to vote for committee members.
  • Each school committee shall have the opportunity to elect at least one member to the Council of Council Committee. 
 

The district shall provide for all ELAC members:

  • Appropriate training and materials to assist each member to carry out his or her legally required advisory responsibilities.
  • Training planned in full consultation with ELAC members. Title I-LEP and/or district funds may be used to cover the costs of training and attendance of ELAC members.

School Leadership Council

The Local School Leadership Council (LSLC) program was created in 1989, in response to teacher demands for schools to have more local control.  The Council allows parent, teachers, other school staff members to contribute to planning that affects their school. Local School Leadership Council is a governing council with the functions and responsibilities set out by Article XXVII of the UTLA-LAUSD contract.
