Our Bravo Peer College Counselor has created a Google Doc that she will be updating with Scholarship opportunities. Save it to your Google Drive so you don't miss out. She listed the best database websites and Scholarships specific to different groups. Click here for the link

While you wait to hear about your admissions offer and financial aid, here is a helpful doc that lists the Costs and Earnings of college grads. The information was compiled by our Peer Counselor from the College Scorecard.

Now that 420 Seniors completed FAFSA/CADAA (amazing by the way!!), here are some reminders:

  1. I can’t stress enough to Check your emails for confirmation that your application was received, processed, or if there are any errors you need to fix. If you receive a message that there are any errors, follow the directions. The emails will come from the Dept. of Education. If you submitted more than 10 days ago and have not received an email stating it was processed, log back into your FAFSA and check the status. See Mrs. Montes if you need assistance.

  1. After completing the FAFSA / CADAA, your application data is sent to all the colleges listed on your application. Based on the information in your application, an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) amount will be determined. This is the amount of money your family is expected to pay for any college you attend. Your Financial Aid offer will consist of loans, grants, scholarships to cover the remaining Cost of Attendance (COA). Here is an example of 3 schools that Student A applied to:

*EFC for student A:

COA:

Financial Aid Offer:

$1,000

College A - $30,000

$29,000

$1,000

College B - $6,700

$5,700

$1,000

College C - $85,000

$84,000

*Notice that the EFC never changes even if the COA changes.

  1. If you have a high EFC, you will receive less financial aid. You should start looking for additional scholarships. See the College Center Schoology Resource Folder. Financial Aid Resources -> see the Scholarship folder

  1. If you need to add additional colleges, WAIT until your application says that it was processed and all colleges receive your application. I highly recommend that you wait 2 weeks.

    1. FAFSA: Use your FSA ID to log back in, go to the “Update Schools”. If you already have 10 schools, you will need to delete some to make room in your application. This is why it is important to wait until the app has been fully processed. How to Add Colleges to FAFSA

    2. CADAA: After you submit your application, review the Confirmation Page to identify and fix any errors that need correction. After the initial successful submission of your application, the CSAC will send you an email with your nine-digit Dream ID number. If you haven’t received an email, be sure to check your spam/junk folders. Keep this number in a safe place; you will use your Dream ID number to create a WebGrants 4 Students account, when you talk to your college, or the CSAC.

  1. If you qualify for a Cal Grant, you will receive an email from the CA Student Aid Commission after your FAFSA / CADAA is processed successfully. Follow the directions in the email to set up your Webgrants4Students Account to manage your Cal Grant: Webgrants4Students

Qualifying for a Cal Grant is not automatic, it is a need-based program. You must meet financial income and asset eligibility, and GPA requirements. After receiving your FAFSA / CADAA, the CSAC will process your application to determine if you are eligible to receive a Cal Grant. Once you create and log into your Webgrants4Students account, you can check the status of your Cal Grant eligibility. Your GPA has already been uploaded for you. For more information, see Cal Grant FAQ - California Student Aid Commission

National School Counseling Week 2022 (#NSCW22) is Feb. 7-11, 2022, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. National School Counseling Week is always celebrated the first full week in February.

This week we celebrate and recognize the incredible contributions of school counselors nationwide but we especially celebrate our counseling team here at Bravo.   We are fortunate to work with a distinguished set of individuals who are always giving it 100%.  Bravo thanks our COUNSELING TEAM so much for making this world better in so many ways.
