Bio

Hello, my name is Melissa Espiritu.  I grew up in South East Los Angeles in the city of Huntington Park. I went to all LAUSD schools in the South East area and graduated from Bell High School.  From there I attended UCLA.  I got my teaching credential through the LAUSD District Intern Program.

I have been teaching since 2001, with a short break from 2005-2007 to get my MA in Comparative Literature at San Francisco State University.  I have worked at South Gate High School, South East High School, and Animo Pat Brown Charter High School.  I have taught all grade levels in English Language Arts, as well as Journalism and ERWC.

I currently live in Montebello with my partner and our two kids.
